A Journey in Fine Art
(Horses)

"Forever a thief of tamer steeds,
Stallion prince of the mustang breeds,
Coveted prize of men who ride,
Never a rope has touched his hide.

O Phantom Ghost of heart's desire,
Lusty limbed, with soul of fire,
Milk-white monarch, may you, free,
Race the stars eternally!"

The White Mustang Oil 20×30

The Watering Hole SOLD Oil 12×9

In 1917 John Holzwarth and his wife Sophia established a homestead along the Colorado River north of Grand Lake. They developed a ranch, raising both hay and horses. The Watering Hole depicts that space in time.

A whistle brings them to the fence.
It's shrill and filled with confidence.
They prick their ears and sniff the air.
Who is that walking, coming near?

Someone who will touch your nose,
And rub your forehead, talk in prose,
Then paint your portrait as you stand,
With strokes made fine by brush in hand.

Crossing At Sundance Ridge SOLD Oil 20×24

Winds whisper ghostlike messages resounding the cries of Indians, the hoofbeats of spirit ponies, the whistles of cowboys, and the whinnies of quarter horses. The echos of the past sweep into the present as horses cross the river at Sundance Ridge.
